Graham Rhodes is also an artist with over 40 years experience in painting, print making, graphic design, and numerous other projects. He studied art at Jacob Kramer Leeds and at Harrogate Art College. He began working professionally as an artist in the 1970’s and took part in many exhibitions and galleries through the North of England, however for many years he stopped painting & drawing, preferring to concentrate on creating moving images for the corporate world of marketing.

As a graphic designer he has created numerous book jackets for such companies as Octopus Books, St Michael and Allen & Unwin. He has also designed print work and record sleeves for such bands as The Police, Squeeze, The Cramps, The Fall and many other bands.

Now he lives in Scarborough and has returned to his artistic roots and first love of landscape painting. His major influences being Samuel Palmer, The Russian Art Group known as The Wanderers (circa 1860’s whose original members were Ivan Ivanovich Shiskin, Aleksi Savrasov, Mikhail Klodt), the English Post Impressionist movement such as The Staithes Group of Artists, Whistler, Sisley, Frank Mason & Jasper Johns.

His paintings featuring Sewerby Gardens are part of a series of site specific art works that explore the colours, textures and patterns created by formal gardens by his use of paint and painterly post-impressionist techniques.
